TRATTO
MUK.sinfonieorchester
Orchestral music | New music | Classic | Concert | Adults
Since its acclaimed stage premiere in 2010, Mieczysław Weinberg’s opera Die Passagierin (The Passenger) has brought the Polish-Russian composer out of obscurity in Austria. His distinctive neoclassical and expressive style shines in the 1967 Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra, a work that blends vivid, personal melodies with a tonal language reminiscent of both Stravinsky and Shostakovich. Performing the virtuosic solo part is MUK student Filippo Lombardi, a prizewinner at numerous international competitions, accompanied by the MUK.sinfonieorchester.
This edition of TRATTO is thematically framed by Igor Stravinsky’s Petrushka, the vibrant and theatrical ballet score telling the story of a puppet brought to life.
In a compelling parallel, two new works by MUK students Valeriia Dolhikh and Edwin Zúniga Flores take center stage, exploring the theme of animation and transformation through their own contemporary musical voices.
Artistic direction is in the hands of Andreas Stoehr, professor of conducting at MUK. Jean Beers, head of the Department of Keyboard Instruments, Music Direction, and Composition, will serve as host for the evening, guiding the audience through this rich and varied program.
