THE FINEST EMOTION OF THEM ALL

In their first programme of the new season, Chorus Juventus, performing a cappella and with piano accompaniment, explore our relationship with love. Johannes Brahms’ Opus 52 “Liebeslieder Waltzes” forms the centrepiece of the evening. The texts in this work were taken from Georg Friedrich Daumer’s poetry collection “Polydora” (“The great Giver”), which is comprised of adaptations of eastern European folk songs. Brahms is said to have composed these pieces for Clara Schumann – so there is a natural logic in the programme’s inclusion of two of her songs, in which she sets texts by Heinrich Heine and Friedrich Rückert. In addition, you will also hear much more recent love songs which were hits for Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Radiohead.
