THE FAIRY QUEEN | Schulvorstellung | in englischer Sprache

In 1692, when H. Purcell wrote his Masques or so-called Semi-Opera “The Fairy Queen”, its connection to W. Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” was more than obvious to the audience. Over time, the focus shifted towards more original music and away from the source text. Our production returns to the masque’s roots: combining Purcell’s beautiful music with scenes from Shakespeare’s play to make the story come alive again.

Students of the Senior Highschool of the Vienna Boys Choir together with the Vienna Girls Choir, accompanied by a chamber orchestra, perform an abridged version sure to transport audiences into a world of fairies and dreams. Will the cast of the titular fairy queen Titania and her husband Oberon, their dancing court of fairies, a singing poet and young lovers find happiness despite cheeky Puck’s meddling?

This English language production is intended for an audience from 10 years old to graduation.
