LOB DER UNGEWISSHEIT – GEFÜHRTE IMPROVISATION (IN PRAISE OF UNCERTAINTY – GUIDED IMPROVISATION)

Close-up on new music | curated by Irene Suchy

Improvisation is an important part of a composer’s creative process. It could be based on words, structures, drawings or gestures; and all these options are explored in this event. In conjunction with composer and sound painter Samu Gryllus, the audience at this concert will get the opportunity to compose through the use of gesture, singing, and playing.

The programme for this event, which is presented in collaboration with the Austrian Composers’ Association (ÖKB – Österreichischen Komponistenbund), contains a fascinating assortment of music. It includes John Cage’s “Number Pieces”, a composition based on mathematical principles which uses chance as a source of creative impetus. Also featured is Cathy Berberian’s “Stripsody”, a striking piece which explores and experiments with the human voice, bringing unusual vocal sounds to the forefront.

A concert for everyone who can read music – and everyone who can’t!
