VERLEIH UNS FRIEDEN – GRANT US PEACE
Choral music that speaks of our deep longing for peace
Choral music | Concert | 8+ | Young people | Adults
Chorus Juventus is a mixed choir, led by choirmasters Daniel Erazo-Muñoz and Oliver Stech. It draws its members from the Vienna Boys Choir High School, which was founded in 2010. The High School has a focus on vocal music, making the only one of its kind in Europe. As well as choral singing, the disciplines offered include composition, aural training, and performance practice. Each student receives individual voice training, delivered by a team of nine vocal coaches. The students get the opportunity to demonstrate their solo prowess during evening Lieder recitals, as well as giving their own choral concerts, and they also perform in musical collaborations with the Vienna Boys Choir, and make special appearances with the Philharmonix.
The title of their 10th April concert is “Verleih uns Frieden” (“Grant us peace”). The programme features some of the most beautiful and urgent prayers for peace ever written. It includes works by composers as varied as Thomas Tallis, Felix Mendelssohn, and Gabriel Fauré. The evening is brought to a close by two spirituals and Christopher Tin’s rousing song “Baba Jetu”, which won a Grammy back in 2011.
