Ö1 MUSIKSALON
Dankesklänge - Sounds of gratitude
Chamber music | New music | Concert | Adults
This programme spotlights the winner of the Ö1 Prize for Composition, Tanja Elisa Glinsner. An ensemble from the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra gives the premiere performance of her work “Die Geburt des Chrysomeles” (The Birth of Chrysommalos), which tells the story of the ram from the Greek myth of the Golden Fleece. This piece is preceded and followed by two classics of string quartet literature. The concert opens with Joseph Haydn’s Sun Quartet No. 2 (Hob. III/31–36), which the composer finished with thanks to “Almighty God and the most blessed Virgin Mary”. A similar expression of gratitude forms the kernel of Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 132, which he titled “A song of thanksgiving to the Deity from a convalescent”.
