RIVE GAUCHE
An evening in Paris
Chamber music | Concert | Adults
The Latin Quarter, the Sorbonne, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Montparnasse – all famous places on the Left Bank, lying below L’ Île de la Cité. Home to Notre-Dame, Palais de la Cité, and Sainte-Chapelle, they form the very heart of Paris, and have long been the city’s meeting point for intellectuals and artists of every kind. The Left Bank was not only host to pioneers of musical impressionism such as Debussy and Ravel, but also to members of the Group of Six, such as Milhaud, Honegger and Poulenc, who rebelled against impressionism and German Romantic music, and sought to promote simplicity and clarity in French musical composition. So let’s head for the Seine, and spend an evening with these highly innovative musicians.
DARIUS MILHAUD Suite für Klarinette, Violine und Klavier,
ARTHUR HONEGGER Sonate für Violoncello und Klavier
FRANCIS POULENC Sonate für Klarinette und Klavier
MAURICE RAVEL La Valse, Fassung für Klavier
CLAUDE DEBUSSY Sonate für Violine und Klavier, Klaviertrio in G-Dur
